Eczema Treatment : Avoid Products With Irritant Ingredients

Apart from the irritating torment it causes, eczema is an embarrassing disorder for the concerned person. It can also be a disastrous affliction for your social life. The strange fact is that it is such a common skin disorder. Medically termed as atopic dermatitis, eczema affects children and infants more than people of other ages. The figure is as high as one out of five children in UK and one of twelve adults. The high occurrence of this disorder among infants is due to their greater susceptibility to skin disorder.
Eczema is, in fact, the generic name for a number of skin conditions that can afflict the skin such as allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, infantile seborrhoeic eczema, adult seborrhoeic eczema. Although the main causes for eczema is not known, it is believed to be due to immunity disorder. The symptoms range from itchy, dry and red, while in severe cases, the skin can become raw and torn, with bleeding.
Application of cleansers and moisturisers help to a great extent in eczema treatment. It is unwise to neglect the skin, even when you are not afflicted with eczema. In general, any product harmful to the skin should be avoided. The list includes perfumes that can cause bad irritation to the skin. Also a moisturiser free of fragrant essence should be a better idea to be on the safe side.
Among the herbal creams, some ingredients that proven to be beneficial to the skin during eczema treatment is chamomile, blueberry which act as natural disinfectant and anti-inflammatory substance. Coconut oil has also been found beneficial to keep the skin well-moisturised. Since the skin is susceptible to 'flare-ups' upon exposure to allergens in the environment, special care should be taken of environmental cleanliness as well as of personal hygiene which includes regular cleansing and moisturising of the skin.
